|Where Spirit Guides Me
Born in Toronto, Ontario but raised in various regions across Canada, Teri's earliest inspiration was her mother, who sketched portraits of family members as a hobby. While her first artistic attempts involved cartooning as a child, she was later inspired by native art styles while travelling with her family through Western Canada.
Teri has travelled extensively throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the Orient. Influenced by her travels, the natural and cultural sights of these regions have become the subject matter of her art.
“Surrounded as I am much of the time by such vibrant, natural beauty it is impossible as an artist not to be inspired to capture on canvas the spirit, color or texture of many of the beautiful places I find myself.”
A guest of Bali since October of 2006, Teri continues to travel extensively but invariably returns to Bali. With a Master’s degree in Art, Teri is not only qualified but greatly enjoys encouraging young people to develop their artistic abilities and has taught junior high level art.
As a painter, her preferred medium is acrylic or acrylic and sand on canvas but she has worked with pencil, charcoal, watercolour, pastel, conte and oils. Teri has focused at times on the freedom and mystery of the sea and the life forms to be found there. Ever a lover of sand and sun, the beaches of the Caribbean and Indonesia inspired her sand paintings which have been popularly received. Tropical birds and wildlife are often subject matter, although predominately in recent works more abstract, esoteric themes are represented.
